Friday 13th July  2007

Friday's Entertainment brought you the best in original and exciting music rolling into a crackin' finale with sheer brilliance and showmanship.

Guitar driven Southern style Rock, Soulful Rhythms with dynamite vocals create a funk filled groove with roots. This band combines Tom Petty, Black Crowes and Led Zep. Strong blues influences are unmistakable in Clark's hard edge guitar work. The rhythm section holds an undeniable groove. A true power group with dynamics to die for and sweet harmonica to soften it's edges and give it that down home southern feel. This hard working road band plays mostly covers that really set it apart from the average band. Their choice of cover tunes is very precise and they are done with the band's own twist. No Mustang Sally here, just a southern blues rock sound that crosses all boundaries. It's a mesh of all influences in the south that have created this Red Dirt sound.

  18.10pm - 19.10pm  JESTER BONES

19.25pm - 20.30pm  EL COJONES

Despite the attentions of the Tax Office and the Serious Fraud Squad, El-Cojones continue to inflict their unique brand of ‘musical entertainment’ on the public, their reputation spreading across Devon like galloping herpes. Laughing off all attempts to either civilise or educate them they still rely on alcohol and fart gags to get through the night, occasionally bursting into vaguely recognisable songs by The Stones, Joe Cocker and other old-timers. Original members Dick Scratcher, JY Kelly, Hugh Garse and Dick Cheese have now been joined by Johnny Stinkfinger, (half Navajo Indian, half Tiverton road sweeper), who brings a wealth of experience to the band, having carried equipment for many of the top bands in the area over the years. His unique dress sense combined with a refreshingly new approach to time keeping ensures that Cojones maintain the low standards they have fought to attain.

Loud, rude and great fun, El-Cojones continue to astonish everyone (including themselves) with their popularity. Book ‘em, or we’ll send Dick round to tell jokes at you.

20.45pm - 21.45pm DELTA DUKES

Delta Dukes are a four piece band comprising of bass, drums, two guitars and vocals.
Between them they have decades of experience of playing live music in many and varied locations. From pubs, clubs, weddings and parties to festivals and Home Park (Plymouth Argyle's) football stadium they have been entertaining audiences across the South West for the last three years.
With their particular brand of 'good time music' they are probably best described as putting the 'roots and rhythm back into rock 'n' roll'. Delta Dukes have been steadily building a following of dedicated fans by their energetic and exciting live performances. Their professional attitude to performance coupled with the enthusiasm the music generates has meant that they are constantly in demand from promoters and punters alike throughout the region.

22.00pm - 23.00pm THE JURY

The Jury...Funky blues for the wider, more fuller figure

Like your blues funky? Then Weston’s ‘The Jury’ may well be your cup of tea. Formed in 2004 by members of other well established local bands (Trainspotters, The Orphans, The Lone Sharks) ‘The Jury’ serve up a danceable mix of funky blue collar R&B with their seven piece line up.
So that'll be 7 pints, 4 pies and 3 bags of chips please, oh! and one with curry sauce. Sorted!

23.15PM - 00.45am THE COMMUNICATORS
The Communicators are a 9 piece skanking bunch of nutters that play old skool Jamaican Ska, two tone classics & new wave Ska Punk, covers & originals! With a banging back line consisting of Drums, Bass, Percussion & Keyboards! Coupled with a red hot guitar player, Razor sharp Horn section and  vocals from a Fat bloke in a whistle!

Covers by bands such as Madness, The Specials, The Beat, The Selecter & Bad Manners plus some skanked up versions of non Ska tunes!

Formed in the early part of 2005 The Communicators have not hung around in hitting Ska lovers with performances up and down the country and having a right good time in doing so!

With a Brass section Bad Manners would be proud of, a rock solid back line, great backing vocals and a front man that cuts the mustard not only vocally but in his skanking attitude also, The Communicators are a must see for any one that has ever worn a pair of Dr Martins or a Crombie!
